Right before our trip, the scale read 201.0. I’m half way to my goal of 40 pounds. My clothes are looser, my body is firmer, and my face is thinner. I’m really happy with the weigh things are going. Here are some stats for the month of February:
- I lost 6.8 pounds
- I dropped 2 % in body fat
- I ran 16 times for a total of 43 miles
- I used the elliptical machine 5 times for a total of 1 hour
- I lifted weights 11 times
Even though we started the site in October, my official “work hard date” was November first. Since that time, I’ve lost 20 pounds and 6 % body fat. 20 pounds is just about 10% of my original body weight. I’ll post some before and after pictures (with my shirt on of course) soon . I’m really excited, and hope to continue my success so that I can be down another 20 pounds by June. That would be cool! Thanks to all of you guys for helping to keep me motivated. It’s working.

20 lbs in 17 weeks — about a pound a week. That’s perfect. It’s not what you planned, though, is it? Your eating plan is designed to generate a 1000 calorie a day deficit without exercise — 2 lbs a week — and it sounds like you’re generating another 3500 calorie deficit each week on top of that with exercise. Your body is telling you that’s 3x more than it’s willing to put up with, but your mind and your blog aren’t listening. In entry after entry you write about how you fail to meet your own expectations, lose control at mealtimes, your disappointment at weigh-in. The whole process seems to involve a lot of anxiety — yet by healthy standards (as opposed to The Biggest Loser standards of 10 lbs a week) you’re on an almost flawless 1 lb a week trajectory. Twenty weeks from now (or less) you’re going to be at your goal, despite your plan having failed and despite the journey being fraught with anxiety, having brought you face to face with your shortcomings, loss of control, lack of self-discipline, and so forth.
Twenty pounds is a lot of weight! Go buy four 5-lb bags of potatoes and set them on the kitchen table. You used to be carrying that around on your body! It’s pretty incredible, and excellent work.
Congratulations! You should be really proud!
Have fun in Hawaii.
Please tell me that “weigh things are going” was a freudian slip, because that’s funny.
Congratulations! I know that dieting can be stressful, but … Wow! Look at your progress!
Congratulations!
I love reading about your quest to get in shape. Keep up the good work! You’re an inspiration!
Wow! You’re doing great! I really need to pick up the pace myself. Keep up the great work.
