I’ve been messing behind the scenes at Get Fit Slowly for a while now and I think I’m done. Since I’ve been usingThe Thesis Theme for WordPress, I’ve had to learn a whole new set of tricks and hacks that make the site look the way I want it to. I’ve been learning a little bit of CSS and PHP as I go: I think I’m finally getting the hang of it, but now I’m done. That’s the way things always work, though, right?

Site Tweaks

Here’s a list of the changes that I’ve made over the past few months:

  • A shiny new header for Get Fit Slowly–The last one was a terrible mishmash of stuff that I threw together and stretched to make fit with the design. This new one is much cleaner, and a lot more snappy. I love it. If any of you are looking for a graphic designer, let me know.
  • Re-designed sidebars–The old sidebars were also just thrown in to help me learn how to interact with my new wordpress theme. Now, I’ve actually put some thought into them. The left sidebar is going to be the business and action side while the right side will contain links that help you search and navigate GFS as well as get in touch with me via various social media outlets. I’ve also added a little color to the headings of each sidebar division to help delineate them. I think they look pretty good.
  • Really, the only thing left to do is to come up with some sort of footer design to match (at least the color) the header. That will bring everything together nicely. I just don’t have the energy to do it right now. Every little change takes me way longer than I expect to to, so I think I’m going to call it good for now.

Please feel free to leave comments about likes and dislikes with the design. I’ll listen to them all, but I get to decide whether to act on them or not!

Other Big News

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the many reasons that I was discontinuing google’s adsense. In that post, one of my points was that I wasn’t opposed to making money from this blog but that I wanted to do it by promoting products that I truly believe in.

Recently, an opportunity to do just that has presented itself. I’d like to take some time to introduce Get Fit Slowly’s first official sponsor–Niven’s Northwest Personal Training. I’ve been working with Brody, the owner of NNPT, for the past 6 weeks now. During that time, I’ve seen amazing progress in my body recomposition. He is the third trainer that I’ve worked with since I’ve started Get Fit Slowly, and he’s the first who has taken the time to sit down with me, ask me what my goals are, and then design a plan to help me achieve those goals.

The NNPT studio is located in Salem, OR. But Brody lives in Lake Oswego and sometimes trains clients in their homes. If you’d like a custom workout or a custom meal plan tailored to fit your specific fitness goals, then please don’t hesitate to contact him. And please, mention that you learned about Brody from Get Fit Slowly. When you do, you’ll receive 10% off any fitness package that you purchase, I’ll receive two free sessions with Brody, and he’ll receive more business. So really, everyone wins when you sign up through me. Give NNPT a shot, you’ll be glad you did.

I like the new header. If I lived around there I’d def. give Brody a chance — Missouri is a bit of a drive.

Looking good Mac! I agree, the new header is much better. There are lots of little tweaks I’d like to do on my site, I just need to either work on my graphic design skills, or pony up some money to pay someone who knows what they’re doing!

Great work Mac.

I’d give your trainer a go if I lived a bit closer!

I really like the new theme and graphic. The only thing that stuck out is the runner is landing with his foot too far forward :P

One other suggestion, try putting some space at the top of the page above the header. 10-20 pixels or so. Probably try the same amount that is in between the header and the sponsors title. See if that looks good.
